Interview with Iga
RandomNPC had a chance to sit down with Koji Igarashi of Castlevania fame.
RandomNPC: Right now, Castlevania Judgment is the big news of the day. How did that come to be?
Igarashi-san: We already have a DS version of Castlevania in the works, and fans have been wanting a Wii version for a long time in which they used the whip. But Castlevania games are meant to be played for hours at a time, and we thought that using the Wii remote for that length of time would be too tiring, so we decided to limit how long it would be used. At first Castlevania Judgment looks like a fighting game, but I didn’t build it like that It’s a 3D Vs. Action game.
RandomNPC: As a huge fan of 2D games with 3D sprites, can we expect to see any HD games on the PS3 or 360?
Igarashi-san: There is nothing set, but the franchise has a history on other platforms, so it is a possibility. We have one on the PSP, and 3 on the DS so it is possible.
RandomNPC: Which is your favorite Castlevania game?
Igarashi-san: The most memorable for me was SotN, but that was the first title I worked on. For the series as a whole, I think it would be Castlevania 3.
RandomNPC: What do you think of the Castlevania movie?
Igarashi-san: There is not much I can say about the movie at this time, but I love movies in general, and I am really excited about it.
RandomNPC: SotN was recently released on the XBLA and PSN. Can we expect any other games on those services or Virtual Console?
Igarashi-san: There’s nothing specific that I’m thinking right now, but I’m interested in Wii Ware as a possibility.
RandomNPC: Thank you very much for taking time to sit down with me.
